When shopping online, it’s difficult to determine the country of origin of goods. But this problem will soon be resolved. The government has proposed a proposal that will make it mandatory for e-commerce platforms to provide a ‘country of origin’ filter.
New Delhi: It will be mandatory for e-commerce platforms in India to provide a “country of origin” filter (i.e., the country where the goods are manufactured). The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has put forward a new proposal in this regard. This move aims to bring more transparency to the online market. This change is being made so that customers can easily know the country of origin of a product while shopping online and make informed purchasing decisions.
The Ministry said in a statement that according to the draft of the new rules, every e-commerce company selling goods imported from abroad will have to provide a “country of origin” filter with its products, which will help customers easily search and sort the products. This feature will save customers time in searching for such information among a huge number of products.
Vocal for Local
The draft rules have been posted on the department’s website, and all stakeholders have been asked to submit their comments and suggestions by November 22nd. This change will also directly promote the government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and ” Vocal for Local ” campaigns, as it will make “Made in India” products easier to find. It is hoped that this will provide a level playing field for Indian manufacturers. Domestic products will gain equal visibility to foreign goods, encouraging consumers to purchase products made in India.
According to the ministry, the ‘Country of Origin’ filter will also help authorities monitor compliance. They will be able to verify product information without manually checking each listing and easily detect violations. The ministry said this proposal is an important step towards creating a customer-friendly and competitive e-commerce environment.
